About Sankhāra

The Three Formations

According to Buddhist teaching, there are three types of formative energies that shape our experience:

  • Bodily Formation (kāyasaṅkhāra): The breath and physical energies
  • Verbal Formation (vacīsaṅkhāra): Applied and sustained thought
  • Mental Formation (cittasaṅkhāra): Perception and feeling

The Practice

Through mindfulness and meditation, we can observe these formations, understand their conditioned nature, and gradually release the contracted states that cause suffering.
